Recently an online media published an article about the role of NGOs in the transformation of society. While it does not question their importance per se, it challenges the assumption that NGOs contribute to a deep transformation of society, at least not in their current form and shape. The criticism ranges from size to resourcing, over to organizational structures, power and authorities. At the end the author throws down the glove asking whether anyone beyond the critics of NGOs is interested in transformations in the sector. For years the mission of MitOst and the community of people we’ve been working with from around the world has been to create the right framework for active citizenship. An important part of this evolves around developing your team and organization. Taking up the challenge raised by the Covid-19 pandemic to reinvent ourselves as organizations in order to be part of the transformation of society at such a crucial time in our history, we’ve invited a number of experts to discuss the futures of NGOs against the background of the quest for transformation. The questions leading the discussion will evolve around topics like:

  • What problems have NGOs been grappling with in the past few years?
  • Is organizational development for everyone? Differentiating between realities of small locally rooted NGOs and those of large, capital-based.
  • What are scenarios in which NGOs should evolve to manage the uncertainty of the future?
