“What is the definition of national identity from a young perspective? Could global citizenship be the answer regarding our future identity?”
Since the role of national identities has become a major debate in today’s world with many people calling for expanding citizenship education beyond borders, we want to discuss this from the young people’s point of view. We asked young activists from Tunisia and Lebanon to join us for this discussion and share their insights of how identities look like today and how we can take lessons from the present to raise the citizens of the future better. We want to share stories from the ground and individual experiences concerning national identity.
“Identity and Citizenship Education: young perspectives from Tunisia and Lebanon” on the 12th of November 2020 at 3 PM CET we will welcome the following speakers:
- Lamis Aissa from Tunisia: Lamis is a law graduate with an ongoing master’s degree in political science. Since 2011 Lamis has worked in the field of Citizenship Education with joining different NGOs, attending human rights training and working as project coordinator at ARTICLE19.
- Sarah El-Abd from Lebanon: Sarah is the founder and Editor-In-Chief of “The Phoenix Daily”, an independent Lebanese newspaper. As a student of Political Science, she believes in academia as a tool for empowering intellectual consciousness in the young Lebanese generation.
- Moderator: Lisa Sebold works at the Federal Agency for Civic Education/bpb since 2017. To reflect on theoretical concepts of National, European or Global regarding long term effects of Civic Education, she was also involved in NACE (Network Arab Civic Education).
